Overview Course length: 1 hour The use of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has increased dramatically, becoming one of the most common medical interventions performed today. Unfractionated heparin has traditionally been the anticoagulant of choice for prevention of thrombus formation during PCI. However, the adjunct use of potent antithrombotic agents has further improved clinical outcomes in patients undergoing PCI. Has the use of heparin therapy become passé in the cath lab? Has the use of newer agents (i.e., low-molecular-weight heparin, glycoprotein IIb/IIIa antagonists, direct thrombin inhibitors, thienopyridine) become the standard of care? Join recognized experts in this lively discussion as they review current treatment recommendations for antithrombotic therapy during PCI based on the available clinical evidence.
